​I discovered Thibaut through his music. My co-producer had met him at a festival and sent me some links to his work. I already had a fairly clear idea of the kind of composition I wanted for my film DERIB, UNE VIE DESSINÉE, but I knew it would be a real challenge.

When I listened to Thibaut’s score for a short film set in the United States, I was immediately struck by the cinematic quality of his sound. We spoke over the phone, and I believe we connected right away on a human level — which, to me, is essential. We didn’t meet in person until much later, during the sound editing sessions, but it felt as though we already knew each other.

 

Thibaut works in a very structured way, which is not only pleasant but also highly effective. We didn’t have much time to finish the film, but his working method allowed us to truly deepen the musical themes.

The challenge was to blend two distinct worlds: the Swiss landscapes and the American Rockies and plains. These contrasts needed to merge and intertwine — and that challenge was met beautifully!
